Residential Services

Wellspring prides itself in providing a unique, professional, two-week program of counseling and care specifically designed to aid victims of coercion, exploitation, and abuse in their return to emotional and psychological health. Most of the members of the Wellspring treatment staff have themselves been involved in an abusive group or controlling relationship and thus share a special empathy and understanding with the client.

Our center has been in operation since 1986. We have treated more than 1000 individuals since we began, including two on-site treatment programs conducted in Sweden, and many others across the US.

The programOur credentialed and specially trained counselors provide daily, one-on-one counseling for each client. The sessions help clients work through the pain, questions, and confusion with which they are struggling.

Clients also attend workshops each weekday which are led by our educational team of therapists, specially trained staff members, and cult experts. These sessions help clients better understand, and thus accurately, process the trauma they have suffered. Workshop offerings include Thought Reform Dynamics, Healthy Relationships, Stress Management, Art and Music, Assertiveness, Trauma Recovery, Issues with Eating Disorders, and others.

The core program can by supplemented by the client using Wellspring's extensive library of books, tapes, and videos as well as our archive of news articles and other materials.

Environment

Located in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near Albany, Ohio, the environment at Wellspring is homey, informal, and warm. The Lodge  boasts a wrap-around balcony, and spacious windows. The decor and location are designed to foster a safe, nurturing atmosphere, thus creating a place conducive to recovery.

Perhaps more important is the caring staff. Wellspring's staff of residence coordinators are on the front lines of healing at Wellspring. The RCs take care of meeting the client’s needs through the hospitality operations of the Lodge, empathic listening, structured activities, and recreational outings.

Results Testing administered before and after treatment shows that Wellspring clients consistently display lowered states of dependency, depression, and anxiety.

And, behind those stats are hundreds of real people who received help and hope as evidenced by the following quotes from Wellspring alums:

  • "You have all been very compassionate ... the kind of compassion that could only come from someone who’s been there.”
  • “I came here feeling sick and brain dead. Now I am going home and feeling like I’m ready to live again.”
  • “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, sweet smiles, and most wonderful hospitality.”
  • “I can now see there is a life worth living after all.”
  • “I thank God there are people like you in this world."
